Mega-G+ 1970 Boss Mustang 429 HO Scale Slot Car

Innovation in the 1970s roared alongside the speed and power of muscle cars. Dominating racetracks and neighborhood streets, muscle cars were drawing these two worlds closer than ever before. One of the rarest of them all: The Mustang Boss 429 1970 in Pastel Blue, is now brought to you in HO scale from AFX.  

The Mustang Boss 429 began its brief run during Ford’s pursuit of a car that could compete with Chrysler and GM during what some have deemed the “Horsepower Wars.” NASCAR rules decreed that any contending engine had to be in at least 500 cars produced for public purchase. Putting a 429-cubic-inch semi-hemispherical V8?engine?for NASCAR competition into the engine compartment of a Mustang was quite a challenge. It simply did not fit. Ford outsourced the job to Car Kraft who retooled the front apron, suspension mounts and battery placement to accommodate the massive engine. Though the gamble didn’t pay off monetarily, it sure did in horsepower.  

The hood scoop was functional and defined by matte black paint – drawing focus where the ’69 didn’t. 1970 was the final year of the Boss’ production and saw 499 models come off the line. 5 different color options were offered - 4 of which were vibrant with black interiors. 

The 5th however, donned the subtly stunning Pastel Blue - a resemblance to Ford’s popular 60s color, Wimbledon White. Only 18 of the 499 models came in Pastel Blue. Of those 18 only 2 had fully white interiors, making the Pastel Blue 1970 Mustang Boss 429 one of the rarest in Muscle Car history.
